TLG NOW OFFERING GENOMIC TESTING FOR AUSTRALIAN DAIRY FARMERS

Total Livestock Genetics announced today that it has entered into a strategic agreement with Neogen Corporation (Nasdaq: NEOG)

Neogen Corporation is a leader in the development of animal genomics along with the manufacturing and distribution of a variety of animal healthcare products, including diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, veterinary instruments, wound care and disinfectants.

Results from genomic tests can deliver highly reliable genomic projections on several different variables. This includes traits such as Net Merit, BPI, Daughter Pregnancy Rate, Daughter Fertility, Productive Life, Survival and Somatic Cell Score. It also includes yield traits, such as an animal’s milk, fat, fat percentage, protein and protein percentage.

In the world of genomics time is money, Neogen has demonstrated a continued commitment to the success of the dairy producer by providing genomic testing results faster than ever. This allows dairy producers to make economically impactful decisions on a younger animal potentially reducing costly days of feed.

Total Livestock Genetics will market several unique genomic tests, Igenity Aussie Select, Igenity Essential and Igenity Select. These will be delivered to meet each individual customer’s requirements on Australian and USA predictions.

Total Livestock Genetics Managing Director Dr Shane Ashworth said ”We are extremely excited about this product. Genomics is an absolute must for the modern dairy farmer. We will focus on rapid turnaround of results and meaningful data to help them make important decisions. Producers will be able to access this data in a very unique and efficient manner on the Igenity Dashboard.

Total Livestock Genetics will launch the product at International Dairy Week on January 16 in Tatura.

Equine Season in Full Swing

To say 2015-16 was busy is an understatement. With 360 mares through the centre (that equates to over 5000 scans, and a lot of late nights and early starts!), it is truly a credit to the small and dedicated team that it was so successful.

Horses came from all over Australia, and in fact the only place not represented at Glenormiston was Northern Territory. We had all sorts of breeds: Standardbreds, Warmbloods, German Riding Ponies, Gypsy Cobs, Friesians, Stock Horses, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Andalusians, Arabs, Connemaras, Clydesdales, Polo Ponies, Coloured horses and even a Coloured Standardbred!

After what felt like a very short off season, we are well and truly back into the swing of things, and with Standardbreds starting earlier than usual we have been scanning and inseminating mares and collecting stallion for the last five weeks.

Dr Steve Williams and Dr Jason Anton are being ably assisted by Dr Elisa (Eli) Velez Aramburo, Stud Manager Jason James, and support team Alannah and Karli, and we are looking forward to Dr Eze Boretto (who spent some time with us last season) making the permanent move from Argentina to TLG in November.

Having secured the site at Glenormiston long term, we are in the process of improving the facilities on offer, to include a purpose built foaling down precinct, as well as continual fencing and pasture upgrades.

Services will also continue to be offered on farm for local clients, or at South West Equine Centre.

Oh, and we’ve added Norwegian Fjord to the breeds list this year!
