Export Update

TLG has been exporting breeding animals since early 2000, and has a first class Live Export Facility, and highly trained technicians and veterinarians to support the shipments and our clients.

Given our experience with embryo transfer, artificial insemination, ultrasound pregnancy testing and 25 years of quarantine management, TLG is ideally placed to add value to customers wanting something better from the live export market.

We believe breeding animals are high value and need to be selected carefully and treated especially well in the export process. As part of our breeding operations we have an independent animal welfare process which we are building on to make sure our animals are cared for in all aspects of their preparation and journey.

TLG currently exports by ship and plane to many destinations including:

  • China
  • Malaysia
  • Thailand
  • Indonesia
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • USA
  • Uruguay

We export all species including cattle, horses, goats, sheep, alpacas and even buffalo.

Fresh sexed semen gains traction

In 2011, in partnership with Sexing Technologies, TLG commissioned Australia’s first and only commercial Sexed Semen facility.

This exciting technology allows owners of Australian genetics to compete in the local and global market with semen that has been based on the selection of gender.

Demand has taken off with the laboratory moving to six machines for the 2015 season.

One use of the technology that has been particularly well supported is the use of “fresh” sorted semen. This has unlocked milking and mature beef cows for the technology as well as made it highly successful in embryo recovery programmes.

The process is available for many species and donors can be housed at TLG for collection and sorting as well as transporting quality semen to the laboratory.
