Equine Season in Full Swing

To say 2015-16 was busy is an understatement. With 360 mares through the centre (that equates to over 5000 scans, and a lot of late nights and early starts!), it is truly a credit to the small and dedicated team that it was so successful.

Horses came from all over Australia, and in fact the only place not represented at Glenormiston was Northern Territory. We had all sorts of breeds: Standardbreds, Warmbloods, German Riding Ponies, Gypsy Cobs, Friesians, Stock Horses, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Andalusians, Arabs, Connemaras, Clydesdales, Polo Ponies, Coloured horses and even a Coloured Standardbred!

After what felt like a very short off season, we are well and truly back into the swing of things, and with Standardbreds starting earlier than usual we have been scanning and inseminating mares and collecting stallion for the last five weeks.

Dr Steve Williams and Dr Jason Anton are being ably assisted by Dr Elisa (Eli) Velez Aramburo, Stud Manager Jason James, and support team Alannah and Karli, and we are looking forward to Dr Eze Boretto (who spent some time with us last season) making the permanent move from Argentina to TLG in November.

Having secured the site at Glenormiston long term, we are in the process of improving the facilities on offer, to include a purpose built foaling down precinct, as well as continual fencing and pasture upgrades.

Services will also continue to be offered on farm for local clients, or at South West Equine Centre.

Oh, and we’ve added Norwegian Fjord to the breeds list this year!
